Network with Colleagues & Learn from Experts

The Clinicians Center

A host of world-renowned clinical experts will appear in the Clinicians Center during the 2010 International Conference.

The Center is a doctors’ lounge designed to enhance the conference experience for pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine practitioners. Located in Hall E3 of the Morial Convention Center, the Center opens today at 7 a.m. ATS government relations staff will be on hand to discuss important regulatory issues that affect pulmonary, critical care and sleep practices, such as reimbursement, billing and coding, quality improvement and standards of care. And clinical experts will be available to answer questions and offer reliable second opinions on perplexing cases.

“The Center offers ATS members a venue for interacting and networking with experts in the fields of pulmonary, critical care and sleep, said Marc Moss, M.D., chair of the 2010 ATS International Conference Committee. “It also gives physicians an opportunity to improve their clinical practice skills, as well as to discuss certain cases or aspects of their career in a one-on-one, personal setting.”

A full schedule of the experts who will appear in the Clinicians Center is available on the Society’s Web site.

The Center for Fellows & Junior Professionals

This networking and career development center also opens today at 7 a.m. It is a forum for physicians and other healthcare and research professionals in the fields of pulmonary, critical care and sleep who are in training or in transition, post-fellowship or residency.

Located in Room 270 of the Morial Convention Center, the Center will feature career expert discussions each afternoon, starting at 3 p.m., at the same time as social hour (which will offer attendees free cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, as well as networking opportunities).

From today to Tuesday, workshops will feature panel discussions focused on helping fellows gain skills to make a smooth and successful transition in their careers. Each workshop will be followed by a “Junior Professional Series,” which will feature informal discussions meant to enhance the careers of physicians who have recently transitioned out of fellowship and who are pursuing careers in academic medicine.

The Road Map for Fellows & Junior Professionals, an important tool that identifies activities, sessions, meetings and seminars that may be of interest to fellows, junior professionals and first-time conference attendees, is available at the CFJP Center and the ATS Center. The publication can also be downloaded as a PDF from the Society’s Web site at www.thoracic.org. Additional resources, such as the newly  developed grant resources list, are also available.
