Over the years, some of the most important innovations in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine have been announced during the ATS International Conference. The conference offers an array of learning opportunities and in different formats.

It also is a time to network with colleagues in your field, whether they are peers or mentors.

“You can’t help but build a network because you and 16,000 other people are all together in one place, sharing ideas and your passion for this field,” said Jess Mandel, MD, chair of the ATS 2018 International Conference Committee. “As a result, you meet all sorts of people. The ATS also organizes more structured opportunities for networking, particularly for people in the early stages of their careers.”

Whether you’re a clinician looking to stay at the forefront of practice, a researcher eager to learn more about an emerging field of science, or a trainee exploring professional opportunities, ATS 2018 will help you achieve your goals in a collegial and interactive environment. The International Conference will feature more than 500 sessions and 800 speakers. Those sessions, as well as scientific poster sessions and individual presentations of nearly 6,700 scientific and case report abstracts will cover a range of clinical and basic science discoveries that are changing medicine’s understanding and treatment of patients.

The learning and professional opportunities continue throughout the ATS 2018 International Conference:

  • ATS 2018 is making history! This marks the 114th year of the conference, making it the longest-running large-scale conference in the world offering groundbreaking research in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.
  • Networking and engagement opportunities are a vital component of your conference experience, and can lay the groundwork for future professional collaborations and opportunities. Last year, more than 16,000 attendees from 102 countries participated in the conference.
  • The Respiratory Health Awards will be presented at several events during ATS 2018. These awards recognize the most distinguished researchers, clinicians, educators, and public health advocates in the world.
  • American Board of Internal Medicine Maintenance of Certification Medical Knowledge Points and American Board of Pediatrics MOC Part 2 Self-Assessment credits are available through the adult and pediatric core curricula and certain symposia. During ATS 2018, physicians can also earn continuing medical education credits and nurses can earn contact hours.
  • Early career professionals can attend sessions and network at the Center for Career Development. The conference offers graduate and medical students, medical residents, clinical and postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty many options for connecting with colleagues and mentors.
  • The Exhibit Hall will feature more than 200 companies and organizations.
  • Destination: San Diego. While the greatest attraction of ATS 2018 will be the outstanding education opportunities, San Diego is home to a number of can’t-miss sites to visit during your downtime.
