The ATS 2017 International Conference will take place May 19-24 in Washington, DC.

ATS 2017 offers a great opportunity to learn about the latest scientific and clinical advances in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine from leaders and emerging talents in these fields. It also is a time to network with colleagues in your field, whether they are peers or mentors.

Whether you’re a clinician looking to stay at the forefront of practice, a researcher eager to learn more about an emerging field of science, or a trainee exploring professional opportunities, ATS 2017 will help you achieve your goals in a collegial and interactive environment. The International Conference will feature more than 500 sessions and 800 speakers. Those sessions, as well as scientific poster sessions and individual presentations of nearly 6,700 scientific and case report abstracts will cover a range of clinical and basic science discoveries that are changing medicine’s understanding and treatment of patients.

Jump-start your ATS 2017 experience by attending the Opening Ceremony Saturday evening, May 20, to hear Nobel laureate James Heckman, PhD, speak. Dr. Heckman has spent decades studying the relationship of social and economic problems to inequality, social mobility, discrimination, skill formation, and regulation, and to devising and evaluating alternative strategies for addressing those problems. He is director of the Center for the Economics of Human Development at the University of Chicago, and he shared the 2000 Nobel Prize in Economics.

The learning and professional opportunities continue throughout the ATS 2017 International Conference:

  • Because the conference is in the nation’s capital, you can see speakers from a variety of U.S. government agencies, particularly those involved in health care regulation and research.
  • Eight renowned experts in their fields will discuss their work during the Keynote Series, with two speakers featured each day.
  • Education sessions will help physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals stay at the forefront of practice and also earn continuing medical education credits needed for certification.
  • Earn American Board of Internal Medicine Maintenance of Certification Medical Knowledge Points and American Board of Pediatrics MOC Part 2 self-assessment credits in adult and pediatric core curricula and in 22 symposia.
  • Early career professionals can attend sessions to advance their professional development at the Center for Career Development. The conference offers graduate and medical students, medical residents, clinical and postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty many options for connecting with colleagues and mentors.
  • Authors and the journal editors will discuss the latest pulmonary and critical care research in the Journal of the American Medical Association and the New England Journal of Medicine.
