Does Trade Policy Affect Health Care?

Plenary Session (G4)

11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m.
Tuesday

Room 207 A-B (South Building, Level 2), Walter E. Washington Convention Center

The volatile political climate has stirred up concerns about potential changes to multinational trade agreements, including those affecting health care systems. An expert in international trade policy and law will explore the ramifications of those changes during his presentation at Tuesday’s Plenary Session.

Marc L. Busch, PhD, the author of Trade Warriors, is the Karl F. Landegger Professor of International Business Diplomacy at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He has testified before the U.S. Congress on the impact of major international agreements and addressed several governmental and international institutions about international trade.

Marc L. Busch, PhD

In Trade Warriors, Dr. Busch explores the debate about strategic trade policy by using case studies to challenge economic policies practiced since the 1980s. Those debates focus on when a government should or should not subsidize its “national champion” industries.

Preceding Dr. Busch’s address, the new ATS slate of officers will be introduced, and ATS President David Gozal, MD, MBA, and President-Elect Marc Moss, MD, will offer their remarks. ATS members who died during the past year will be recognized during an in memoriam presentation.

Several awards will be presented, including the Outstanding Clinician Awards, the Outstanding Educator Award, and the Research Innovation and Translation Achievement Award.
